My cat had a litter of Kittens which nested in a box on my kitchen floor. She then took the kittens and moved them. She went through a hole in the basement wall and some how ended up with the kittens in the basement ceiling, where I cant see them or reach them. She comes out and eats and uses the litter box, but what should I do? should I just wait until they come out on their own or should I tear my house apart to try and get them?
I think that they are fine in there. the mother is just over protective. They will come out eventually
well you should know that if the mom has them that they are in great hands, thats their nature, but you need to keep an eye on the kittens in case they get hurt or something happens to them because the mom wouldnt be able to do anything for them, so i suggest you get them now!
Cats do things like that all the time. It's her instinct to put them somewhere away from everything to keep them safe. As long as you can check on them and you are sure they are safe, I wouldn't worry about it. If you cannot check on them at least daily I would get them out of there and patch up that hole.
One of my friends had a cat that brought her kittens up into a suspended ceiling and one of the kittens fell between the walls. Thankfully the kitten was crying it's little heart out and they knew what happened. They had to tear a big hole in their wall to get the kitten out though.
Well, first of all you need to make sure the mom cat has total access to the hiding place where she took the kittens. Secondly, she has placed them there because she feels this a safe place for her to nuture them. Eventually she will bring them all out to meet the rest of the family but let her do it in her own time. Cats are very territorial especially when it comes to their young.
Try to get the kittens by using a ladder, or if you can't reach them, ask your mom or dad!!!! Ask your parents, to call the fire department!!
As long as they are not near any insulation, they will be safe for a while.
Give her a new bed/box with clean liner [ put old liner underneath so she can smell it ], and put in a more 'private' spot. Cats don't want their babies in the middle of all the action.
Try a quiet/less traffic room that is warm, and safe – spare bedroom, laundry room, etc.
You need to get those kittens out of there ASAP.
You are unable to see them and would not know if they needed help or medical care. They will be unable to wean properly from their Mom to kitten food. It is much more dangerous for them to be in a ceiling as opposed to the ground. also, you will not be able to hold them and socialize them with people.
The Mother cat probably moved them because she felt that the place where they were was unsafe or too hectic. You have to think like a cat in the wild to understand a cat in "mommy mode" even your other pets that she knows and is fine with will suddenly become a threat to her or any other activities that go on in the house may be very disruptive to her. Her whole life right now is looking after those babies. It only last for 8 weeks so work with her and give her the safe space she needs.
Please remove those kittens and put them and Mom in a safe room and get your cat spayed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My cat took her kittens into the ceiling of my basement from a hole in the wall, what should I do?
